Is Lap Band Surgery Good For Severe Asthmatics?

The rapid increase in obesity across the country has resulted in a number of serious health problems. Many of these health problems can deteriorate a person’s quality of life and even shorten a person’s life. One such health condition that is made worse when obese is asthma. Studies are now showing that there is a link between asthma and morbid obesity. For people who are suffering from severe obesity, lap band surgery has been shown to be an effective method of weight loss that reduces instances of severe asthma attacks.

Obesity has been proven to be a risk factor for such diseases as heart disease, some types of cancer, and diabetes. Now, research studies are revealing that obesity is a risk factor for asthma. For instance, studies now show the risk for developing asthma increases when there is a large increase in weight. When a person is seriously overweight, their breathing becomes shallow because their lungs do not expand as much as it would if one were a normal healthy weight. As well, in obese individuals, there is a chronic inflammation of the lungs which reduces the airway passage. The inflammation takes place in the fatty tissue. A narrower airway passage also means the airways will remain blocked when breathing normally which reduces oxygen exchange. The airways will contract more causing more asthma symptoms. Narrow airways in obese asthmatics are more likely to stay closed during normal breathing which results in reduced oxygen exchange which puts one in a higher risk category for pulmonary hypertension. As well, obese people are more prone to sleep apnea and gastroesophageal reflux disease which can make asthma worse.

When a person suffers from obesity, they tend to have more severe asthma problems than those who are not obese. With a weight loss surgery such as lap band surgery, there can be considerable improvement for people suffering from asthma. With the loss of the excess fat, lung function will improve, inflammation will subside, the air passages will open up, and people will breathe better. As well, they will need less medication and there will be fewer trips to the hospital due to a severe asthma attack.

Lap band surgery has become a popular weight loss procedure to treat obesity because it is minimally invasive with few side effects. As well as having proven positive health results, the procedure normally takes less than an hour and the patient recovery time is short with most patients going home just a few hours after the procedure. It is also the only reversible option and post operative lap band adjustments are made without additional surgery.

During home recovery, the patient will have simple diet to follow as they learn how to eat healthy and the correct amounts of food. Lap band surgery is a great option for those suffering from obesity and serious health problems such as asthma. When considering any type of surgery, it is important to consult with a physician to learn about the benefits and risks involved with the procedure.

The CIBO clinic’s adjustable gastric band offers the safest, sustainable results in weight loss by reducing the amount of food your stomach can hold. Despite the lab band cost, there are many advantages. You can lose weight without hunger and feel full longer with support before and after your laparoscopic surgery. Filed under: Health — Tags: , , , , , , , — Diane Morris @ 3:10 am

Obesity being one of the major health issues these days, a lot of people are continuously looking for latest and successful techniques of weight loss. Liposuction is a method, which makes use of surgical techniques for removing extra fat from certain areas of the body.

The method removes excessive fat from the body by making an incision in the body and pulling out the excess fat by means of a suction device, known as cannula. Following are a few benefits of Liposuction over other weight loss techniques.

The main benefit of this method is the pace with which weight can be reduced. Most of the methods of weight reduction involve strict discipline and regularity in dieting and exercising for months at a stretch, which generally is very difficult to stay motivated about for a long period. On the other hand, lipo ensures immediate loss of weight after surgery and keeps you on track to maintaining your shape by just following a healthy and active lifestyle.

There are a lot of side effects of methods like rigorous dieting, which can give rise to many health complications. In contrast to methods like dieting, liposuction is not only devoid of major side effects but also is safer and more effective. Whatever light bruises or marks that stay following the surgery are temporary and they generally heal quickly.

Liposuction has been known to be highly effective in removal of fat from thighs and certain other parts of the body that are hard to deal with otherwise. Liposuction can in fact guarantee substantial reduction of fat from almost any part of the body as desired.

Although there are several attractive advantages of lipo, you must always remember that it is still surgery. You must ensure that you undergo a full medical check up and consult a physician to learn if there is any possibility of adverse effects on your body that the surgery might cause. You should also be ready for taking a short break from work as you might require some time to recover.

The penis is the external male genital organ, and consists of three chambers of spongy tissue that contain multiple blood vessels, nerves, and smooth muscle. The corpora cavernosa make up two of the chambers, and are located on both sides of the upper part of the penis. The corpus spongiosum is located below the corpora cavernosa and surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine and semen exit the body at an opening called the meatus. At the tip of the penis, the corpora cavernosa expands to form the helmet, or glans. Number of international patients had got good results after having their penile cancer surgery in India.

The causes of penile cancer

The majority of penile cancers develop from flat, scale-like skin cells called squamous cells. Like most other forms of nonmelanoma skin cancer, these tumors tend to grow slowly and are usually preceded by precancerous changes that may last for several years. When detected in the early stages, these tumors can usually be cured. Squamous cell penile cancers can develop anywhere on the organ, but most develop on the foreskin (in men who have not been circumcised) or on the glands. A very rare type of penile cancer called adenocarcinoma can develop in thee sweat glands in the skin of the penis, while another small percentage of penile cancer can develop from melanoma. Melanomas are considered more dangerous because they grow and spread more quickly. Usually melanomas develop on sun-exposed areas of the skin, though occasionally they develop on other areas not likely to be sunburned. The remaining cases of penile cancers develop from the blood vessels, smooth muscle and other connective tissues of the penis.

The symptoms of penile cancer

The most common symptom of penile cancer is a tender spot or an open sore at the tip of the penis. If left untreated, it will spread slowly across the skin and invade deeper layers of tissue. Pain and bleeding may develop as the cancer continues to grow. Penile cancer can spread into the lymph nodes and through the lymphatic (infection-fighting) system, spreading to the groin and other parts of the body.

Self-care tips

If detected early, cure rates for penile cancer are high. Patients should look for abnormal growths that resemble warts or irritated patches of skin that develop on the head of the penis or foreskin. Many people come to India for bone cancer surgery or the rejuvenation promised by yoga and Ayurveda.

Bone cancer & its types:

Primary bone cancer
Secondary bone cancer

Primary bone cancer refers to cancers which start in the bone. These are different to secondary bone cancers which started in other parts of the body and later spread to the bones. Bone cancers are tumours which have the potential to spread to other parts of the body. These are different to benign (non-cancerous) bone tumours which do not spread. Benign bone tumours are more common than malignant (cancerous) bone tumours.

Secondary bone cancer is where malignant cells have spread to the bones from other parts of the body. This is different to cancer that actually started in the bones (primary bone cancer). Virtually all types of cancer can spread to bone. Bone metastases are particularly common in people with breast, lung or prostate cancer. Bone metastases are usually multiple, they cause pain and can can lead to other symptoms such as hypercalcemia (abnormally high levels of calcium in the blood )

What is the treatment for bone cancer ?

Treatment will depend on the type of cancer, whether it has spread or not , and the size and location of the main (primary) tumour. Treatment of bone cancers is complex and involves a team of different specialists usually within an institution that is experienced in treating these types of cancers. There are 3 main types of therapy used to treat bone cancers;
surgery (to take out the tumour in an operation)
radiotherapy (using high-dose x-rays to kill cancer cells)
chemotherapy (using drugs to kill cancer cells)
Surgery is often used to remove the primary tumour. For tumours of the arms and legs an amputation of the limb is sometimes necessary, however, limb-sparing surgery may be possible in many cases where only the cancerous part of the bone is removed and it is replaced by a bone graft or metal prosthesis. Radiotherapy may be given as well as or instead of surgery to destroy the cancer cells. Also, chemotherapy (drugs) may also be given to kill malignant cells that may be circulating around the body.

The cost for the surgery depends on the surgeon. Oftentimes, patients choose their surgeon on the basis of price. The cost of bone cancer surgery in India is very affordable and is much lower when compared to the United States, UK and other countries.
